Unituff Through the Years: Tracking the Use of Unituff in the Industry (Part 1)
When setting out to track the use of Unituff 452 and Unituff OGS heavy-duty peelable protective coatings (formerly called Omni-tuff Seal’n’Peel) in the industry, Unituff’s extensive use in the Oil and Gas sector in Australia is both considerable and vital.
Consider the following Australasian projects under the Australian government’s Energy Performance Contracts wherein seal n peel is used:
APLNG (Australia Pacific Liquefied Natural Gas)
The APLNG is a joint venture between Origin, ConocoPhillips, and Sinopec for gas processing and liquefied natural gas production. The project covers an area from the coal seam gas fields in central and southwest Queensland through the Bowen and Surat basins up to the main LNG facility on Curtis Island, near Gladstone. A fourth partner, Bechtel, was contracted to design and construct the LNG facilities.
GLNG (Golar Liquefied Natural Gas)
Golar LNG is a Bermuda-registered liquefied natural gas shipping company originally founded as Gotaas-Larsen Shipping Company in 1946. They are considered the leading independent operator of LNG carriers and Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs), and the pioneer developer of the Floating Liquified Natural Gas Vessel.
QCLNG (Queensland Curtis Liquified Natural Gas)
Previously Queensland Gas Company and owned by the international BG Group, in 2016 it was acquired by the Royal Dutch Shell, it is now the Queensland Curtis LNG, the world’s first gas from coal seams to liquefied natural gas facility. Its area covers the Surat Basin in southern Queensland, Gladstone, and the main plant on Curtis Island.
The Wheatstone Project in Onslow on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia is owned and operated by Chevron. It is one of Australia’s largest developers of liquified natural gas. The project is ventured jointly with Chevron, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC), Woodside Petroleum Limited, Kyushu Electric Power Company, and PE Wheatstone Pty Ltd. Bechtel is Chevron Australia’s engineering, construction, and procurement contractor for the project.
Ichthys LNG A natural gas field, the Ichthys gas field is located off the north-western coast of Australia in the Timor Sea. It was discovered and developed by INPEX (International Petroleum Exploration), a Japanese oil company, formerly the North Sumatra Offshore Petroleum Exploration Co. Ltd. It is considered one of the largest LNG projects in the world.
The common denominator with all these projects in the Oil and Gas industry is that many of their heavy equipment utilise metal parts that need replacing from time to time. These metal parts, kept in storage until its usage, had to be kept completely rust-free.
For this, Unituff Seal’n’Peel (Unituff 452) protective coating is used. Once a metal part needed to be used as a replacement, the protective coating was simply peeled off like a banana skin, with no cleaning necessary, and ready to be used.
Since brass, stainless steel, and other alloy materials also needed the same protective anti-rust covering, another Seal’n’Peel product was developed, the Unituff OGS is made especially for these types of metals.
